I need a new skeg welded to my 225 ox66 yamaha outboard. I'm in tyler and do not mind driving for service, I just can't wait a week or so to have it done. Does anyone have suggestions besides steves customs props or the Longview place? I can bring boat in first thing in the morning.

Have you looked into just putting a cap over it, you can buy one for your motor here:

https://skeggard.com/

I have absolutely no experience with this but it was something I was looking at a while back after I had to replace my lower unit from a trip up Kickapoo.

I think Classic Fiberglass has a place in DFW area that does it. Fun N Sun as well uses them I think.

Steve at Steve props in Quitman did mine years ago. You may want to call over there and see if they still do it.

The skeg is your only steering connection to the water. Do you trust a weld to cast aluminum at 70 mph? If that welded skeg comes off at speed, you're going for the ride of your life.

I would replace the case. Sure, it costs a more $$$, but for that, you get peace of mind.

I was told the skegg guard is not for boats that go over 55 mph. Don't know if that is true or not.

Give Marine Propeller Warehouse in Longview a call. They do lots of repairs on the local boats and have heard they do really good work.

Take it to one of the ones that you have previously used, other than that Steve would be the only one I would recommend.
