When it comes to catching pan fish - any pan fish, the sky's the limit. Here are a few guaranteed to catch pannies and other species:

Are are key requirements for the above lures to work:
1. light ball head jigs - 1/8 oz for deeper water, 1/16 oz for most water and 1/32 for slow shallow presentations.
2. braid with a 1.5" fluorocarbon leader of 6# test; spinning reel with good retrieve ratio and medium diameter spool.
3. light action rod for easier casting and ease of hook set (too heavy an action and the fish get off the hook too easy. I prefer 6' for spinning and spincast
4. a slow slightly erratic retrieve that uses reel handle turns and rod tip twitches in combination

Baits:
Leland Crappie Magnet grubs - many colors work
any grub with a prong tail vs curl tail or Slider Grub tail

1.5' cut off the tail of a finesse worm and rigged on a ball head jig
shortened Slider Worms (superb!) (to 2.5")
Yamamoto Kut Tail worms shortened to 2" (incredible)

Strike King Joker

...no but I was stationed there for four years from 1970-1974. Saw my first tornado, armadillo, dust storm and black widow spider and caught a 7 lb alligator gar. If there's any place in the US I would move to, it would be eastern Texas.

Wish I knew then what I know now about using lures, though the present selection of different lure types is incredible! Plus they didn't have sonar in the early 70's which I depend on every time I go fishing.
