The other day we were fishing for whites on Lake Aquilla, and I pulled in a hybrid. I know that hybrids have never been stocked in Lake Aquilla, and there are no other lakes up stream that the hybrid could have come from. In case you are curious about how I know it was a hybrid it had both a double tongue patch and broken lines. Does anybody have any ideas of how it could have ended up in the lake?

This is just my opinion not the Gospel. Have you ever wondered how a species ever woundup in a body of water off the beaten path or a place sooo far in the back woods that no one dare venture let alone stock with your favorite fish?I have and the only conclusion I could come to is Nature in the form of Migratory Birds. They fly from one body of water to another and dip their feet anywhere they land and get things (eggs) stuck to them When you think about it it does`nt sound so farfetched

People throw hybrid in lakes all the time caught somewhere else. They will live for a whole day in a good bait tank. And if its cold a lot longer than that even.
Keep em tight!

Folks will stock hybrids in ponds. They'll escape when they overflow.

Many years ago (think in was in the late 70's but I'm too lazy to look it up now), walleyes were stocked in several North Texas Lakes including Grapevine and I believe even Ray Hubbard. Over the next 4-6 years, we caught several walleye in Grapevine up to about 4 lbs. I guess there's an outside chance there could be some still lingering around.

He was 16" and very thick and deep bodied. His size was the reason I checked to see if it was a hybrid. All of your theories sound reasonable. By the way, I caught a walleye in Grapevine back in the late 80's as well. I didn't know what it was at the time. My buddy and I talked about that fish with the shark teeth for many years after that.
