On Friday and yesterday I spent some time on the lake scouting for catchable fish. When scouting I am not trying to maximize fish caught but rather trying to ID the most places I can where I can catch a decent number of fish. On Friday I caught 29 with the majority coming from Enchanted Isle Ridge. It was loaded with fish at its shallowest spots - 19 fow. Also caught about half a dozen at north tip of Spillway Hump in 20 fow and on north slope of Merimac Point in 16 to 18 fow. Checked but found no fish at Key Ranch Drop-off, Key Ranch North, the other parts of Spillway Hump and the Rock Pile. The fish I caught were with the #2 Mepps rig.

Yesterday I caught 63 fish at East Dam Hump, Key Ranch Drop-off and Saint Annes Point East in 14 to 20 fow all but 2 using the #2 Mepps rig. Checked but found no fish at Dam Hump West of the Pole, Campbell's Hump, Dam Drop-off, Dam Ridge, Greenhouse Ridge, the A-Frame, Saint Annes Point West, Saint Annes Drop-off and Sam's Hump. The catch included sandbass plus another huge buffalo, a 3 lb LMB, a 13 inch yellow bass, 6 cats and a 22 inch hybrid.

Thanks Dennis, I will be out to fish Cedar Creek for my first time this Friday through Sunday. I have wanted to fish the lake for some time now and finally get to spend a little time on it.

Good luck! I did a scout trip today and found large concentrations at 3 spots: Key Ranch Drop-off on the slope in 13 to 18 fow, Enchanted Isle Ridge on NW slope in 20 to 23 fow, and Game Warden Hump in 15 to 18 fow. Caught 54 and all but a couple were using the #2 Mepps rig . Caught 50 whites, 2 nice yellow bass and 2 legal hybrids with bigger one going 24.5 inches.

Thank you for your help Dennis. I will be staying on the Tool side of the lake. Maybe I will run into you on the lake. Looking forward to exploring the lake a little. I will let you know how I did.

I scouted south end today and didn't find much. Last stop was Key Ranch Drop-off, and it as loaded with whites in 14 to 17 fow at the top edge of the east-facing slope.

On Saturday Aug 12 I fished half a day and found good numbers of fish at Spillway Hump in 14 to 18 fow, Enchanted Isle Ridge in 19 to 21 fow, at Sunken Island in 12 to 15 fow and at Game Warden Hump in 15 to 19 fow. Left still catching fish at all 4 places. Almost all caught on #2 Mepps rig.

Tuesday 8/22/2017: TFFers lenahorse (Larry) and etu (Ed) came to Cear Creek and fished with me. We fished from 7:45AM to 11:45AM and again from1:05PM to 4:30PM and caught 145: 139 whites, 3 cats, a short hybrid and 2 keeper yellow bass. About half the whites were 11 to 12 inches and half were 13 to 16 inches.
We started at Iron Wall Hump and it turned out to be the best spot. Immediately we started catching fish on the bottom in 22 fow using #4 Mepps. Next we tried Spillway Hump and picked up a few more, same at the Rock Pile. Headed in for lunch and count was 81 whites and 6 others. Came back out and fished Enchanted Isle Ridge and Game Warden Hump and picked up the remaining 58 fish. We did best at Enchanted Isle Ridge on #4 Mepps in 18 to 21 fow. At Game Warden they were in 13 to 15 fow, and we did best with #2 Mepps.

Dennis, does the Mepps method work in low light conditions? I'm thinking about going Saturday afternoon to Grapevine but think the hurricane will keep things overcast.

Very nice Dennis. Ed said he learned a lot from you fishing side by side using Mepps.
