Lots of folks on here insist that Mrs Tucker's shortening is the best for frying fish. A few years back I joined that club. We lived in Austin and about the only place I could get it was at the Fiesta food store. We moved to Sequin and when we had to go to Austin for an appointment I stopped by and discovered that Fiesta no longer carries it. Does anyone know where to get Mrs Tucker's in the Austin/San Marcos/San Antonio area? Thanks!

The big boys like HEB and Walmart don't carry it around here.

Well, I made a liar out of myself. The HEBs in my area of Austin did not carry it. But we just went grocery shopping to the Seguin HEB and they stock it! I am a happy camper. Fish fry this week!

Wow!! I haven't heard of Mrs. Tucker's Shortening in years.
On average, your heart beats 100,000 times a day. One day, one of those heartbeats will be your last. Then what?
The answer is found in Jesus Christ who said "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." John 10:10 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Wow, look at the label. "Prepared with meat fats and vegetable oils". It's half lard; no wonder it's so good.

I know it is good having grown up on fried foods done in Mrs. Tuckers. However, when it is congealed in the container at room temperature, I just have to wonder what it looks like when it hits my arteries. Maybe one's body temperature makes it harmless. That's why I stick with canola oil.
