Here’s another highly requested how to fish guides – all about crappie fishing! If you’re beginning to love fishing or are trying out angling for the first time, then catching crappie fish is a good start! You’d best want to browse through our quick guide for a nice boost to your fishing knowledge!
Thanks for reading on! What we’re going to cover this time is one of the most common and popular fish for anglers, the crappie. Want to know why crappie fish has been one of the favorites for a long time? Here’s why.

Crappie Fishing – The Crappie Fish

Crappie fish is mostly popular because of it being a pan fish. A pan fish is adequately called one as it usually does not outgrow the size of a frying pan, and it’s relatively easy to cook. Crappies are delicious, and people even carry around frying pans to cook freshly caught ones for best taste!

They are among the most common and are quite easy to come by and find if you know your thing. So if you want to learn how to fish and catch a crappie, remember these points about them:

- Crappie fish are hunters and like to “ambush” their prey from hiding places.
- They hate sunlight and prefer to stay in shady areas
- They are nocturnal hunters and come out to hunt at night, dusk and dawn.
- Like bass, they can be aggressive as well
- They thrive in deeper waters

Make sure to take note of these things as we’ll be preparing equipment to combat and catch our fish.

Crappie Fishing – Our Gear

Our fishing equipment fully designed to catch Crappie fish always has the following:

Rods – Medium strength lighter rods are preferred. These fish may be fighters, but they’re not as large or heavy as bass. Enough strength and power will do the trick.

Lines – Make sure your lines aren’t that heavy and visible, too. Crappies have great eyesight and can spot lines that make it go for other prey instead of your bait. Monofilament is recommended.

Bait – Live bait is your best bet. Minnows can attract these fish like a magnet – and if you don’t use them, go ahead and chose a jig to attract them.

Weight and Bobbers – To reach deeper waters; make sure you use a weight and bobber to make a rig that places your lure just above the bottom of the water.

Crappie Fishing – Some Tips

If you’re willing and able, fish at early morning before the sun is fully up. Crappies usually are out and about at these times.

- The deeper the lure can go, the better, but make sure that it isn’t at the bottom either.
- Cast just below structures and trees where the shade is, that’s where they linger In wait.
- Bring more than one rod, you can have one for live bait and the other for jigs, better yet, check out spider rigging – one of the methods experienced anglers use to catch these Crappies.

The driving force and secret desire of every bass fisherman, is to one day be a crappie fisherman............Could it be that the good Lord just smilies and looks the other way when a fisherman tells a lie?
