I'm new to salt water fishing and looking for advice to steer me the right direction. I'd like to go fishing at corpus or port aransas or south padre. what are they catching now? Would I be best off to try a party boat like dolphin docks on a 4 or 5 hr trip?

4 hour trips are worthless.

I agree. I'd pier fish before I did that. Chime in (on line) to the local newspapers down there and read the Fishing Column in the sports section.

I always have people asking for 4 hour trips and I do not do them. A lot of times it just takes longer than four hours to get a box full of fish.

Boy did I ever get lucky !!!!. I was talking to a guy that works at one of the bait shops and he said he was going fishing saturday and if I wanted I could go with him and he would show me the ropes. We will be wade fishing for reds and speckled trout. I'm really excited now. I want to thank you all for the advice because I almost booked a 4 hr trip.

well my friend took me out to fish. Have no idea where I was or how I got there. It was on the aransas pass side where you take the ferry to get across. We caught about 20 reds and 10 speckled trout. All too small. Using live shrimp. All the bait stores were sold out by 730, went to aransas pass to find them. Hot !!! Fished under a bridge in the shade. Lot of fun.
