What times of year are best for what species? Love to catch kings, snapper, want a big amberjack and or grouper. Would like to go out of port Arkansas or port O'Connor area. Any suggestions for times of year or advice, or charter recomendations greatly appreciated.

Is anything good in the gullf coming up in October? Or from what I read online seems like it might be best to just wait until June comes around again for the species mentioned above.

October is a good time for AJ or grouper. Snapper season is closed except in state waters. Kings will be moving deeper.
And AJ season is closed in June.

I knew snapper had a season. I did not know as did as well. How far offshore would one need to travel to find them? A typical 8hr charter be sufficient?

For big AJ you need to get at least 40 miles out of POC and if you want to keep one next year you will probably have to fish in the winter. Season should open January 1.

Closest good AJ spot out of Port A is around 30 miles. Most other spots are 40-60 miles. An 8 hr is sufficient if you are specifically targeting AJ.

Do your research on guides. There are those out there who aren't geared out for certain species or are more concerned with collecting their fee than how many fish you catch. Find a good one and have fun.

How much do these local fisherman usually charge for offshore charters? I am looking to do one around the same time in Port A. I have never done one but have deep sea fished on many occasions. Do they usually provide tackle, bait, and rods?
