Well, I picked up a G-Rod swapping out with a friend here. I'd seen one of his before, loved the workmanship, the feel.
I took it out today as mentioned in an "Athens and Flags goes fishing adventure" post and I really, really like it. This one is actually the 6'6" Trout rod, a 2 piece affair. G-Rods are the relatively new ones making a lot of news made with layers of graphene in the making of the rod. Graphene is a single atom in width material with super strength to weight metrics.
Well, okay. I love science; but, how does it feel? Today, I tossed one of the tiny 3" Keitech Easy Shiners on a 3/0 jig hook with no weight. I was actually pre-fishing with a friend for bass today. So, tossing nothing very big, but the rod loads up very well and it really has that trampoline effect and releases a lot of energy into the lure for long casts. I believe it has a solid tip like some of the JDM ultralight high-end rods and it just feels better.
It also seems very accurate. I was making snap casts down a creek channel with lily pads 6 feet apart and just nailing my intended spots either in the skinny channel or in pockets within the pads.
G-Rods International makes a short crappie rod that is reasonably priced so I might check that out sooner or later.
Anyway, I'd give the rod an A+, a "10", as I haven't found a single thing I don't like about it. It should work great for panfishing where I need to make longer casts. It came with a very nice travel bag so it can be broken down, carried along in the car . . . for that little creek running under this or that bridge. I might stop more often!

Great write up Brad! I have always loved and used the Ugly Stick! Rod's,reels, and ultra light tackle in general has come a long way. Love reading your research and analyse on your tackle. Good job!

Wildman, They have a high end series but recently came out with another rod down in the more affordable zone. The 5'4" crappie rod is $145 I think. None are cheap! Here is the website: G-Rods Brad

I can second Brads love of the G-rods line. Great rods! Their crappie 5'4" rod would appeal to all of the panfish guys. High end look and finish on all of their rods too.

Definitely! Still not sure enough to pull the $350 trigger on one of them that I would like to try, but good info none the less. I love my St Croix's and I put them side by side (if not over) more expensive graphite rods like G Loomis, but haven't tried the new material yet. I was late coming on with micro guides, too.... so...
