Took my son and his friend to Fork today. Got on the water at sun up. This was my first time on the lake in my own boat. Been with guides and a few friends in their boats, but never on my own. It showed. Fished 6 hours and we boated one four pounder in 25 feet on a spoon. Marked a lot of fish but that's the only one we got to bite. Bounced off several trees idling outside the marked boat lanes as well.
I didn't expect a stellar day, but one fish in 6 hours was surprisingly disappointing.
Anybody else do better today? Conditions seemed great this morning.

You probably had a better day than most, you took your son. Doesn't get much better than that.
I am a Senager. (Senior teenager) I have everything that I wanted as a teenager, only 50 years later. I get an allowance every month. I have PU truck and a bass boat, I am blessed. Conscience never acquits, it either accuses or excuses.

any day is a good day with the kiddos.
Fork has been tough unless you can find them stacked up on a hump.

I've had good days and bad. Usually one good one and two or three bad ones. Last trip to Fork, I got one bit and caught one 12" bass. Two weeks before that, one 7 1/2, 7 3/4, broke one off then a 3. Those came "on a hump" and it was over in thirty minutes. So, I keep trying!

Definetely good to get out with my kid. He's about to start his Senior year of high school. And he caught the one fish.
I'm well aware that Fork is like any other lake and can be tough on the "wrong" days. I was just a little surprised at how tough it was on us, especially considering the AM hours conditions seemed ideal. Again though, I don't know what I'm doing on that lake.

I didn't bother bass fishing today, limited on catfish in a few hours. It seems early but it honestly feels like the September turnover is upon us.

That's just Fork and your lack of experience on it. When I started back fishing 3-4 years ago I'd go several days fishing what I thought was right conditions without a bite. The more you fish if you will pick up ways to improve your odds of catching a few but it can still be brutal. Even some of the guides that fish it 3-5 times a week can struggle. If you will pick up a drop shot with 6- 8 lb linewhen it's real tough you will catch more.

I went out with a guide last month and only caught 1 in 5 hours. It can be tough, just keep going. Maybe try an evening trip next time. It seems like fork wakes up after 5. One thing I've learned, even when things aren't going great your boy will still remember this trip forever. You're thinking "Why can't I put these kids on any fish?" while he's thinking, "I whipped EVERYBODY'S BUTT today fishing! And man, it was like almost 5 lbs!!!" Haha! Kids are fun.
