Headed to Cypress for a few days. Any help for a non-tournament guy would be appreciated.

its been tough. there were a few spotted bass on the deeper points, and a few deeper docks. the magic number was 12' two weeks ago. the ned rig was working well on the points. also, a small shad crank that would hit 10'. i never tried a swimbait, but I bet it would work in those schools on the points. there were a few small spotted bass in the tires. i havent caught a bass over 5 pounds in the last 4 times I have been out there.

Last august i couldn't find a decent fish on the main lake to save my life. Ended up finding some better fish shallow in areas i would more expect to find them in the spring, it was odd. I have no idea if its the same this year, but you might try tossing "the book" and doing something unconventional.

Any help is always appreciated. I got out early this morning and only one small fish before daylight. About sunrise caught a nice 5lb 4oz. Caught probably 12 fish, half of them keepers. Lost a big fish at the boat while trying to get the net out of the locker, was about a 7 pounder. Good day!

Did you catch them deep or shallow?

Shallow in the morning, no topwate bites though. Shallow but close to deep water, not back in the coves.

What do you think the 5 inches of rain we just got will do to the fishing this week?

Lake came up over 9 inches so far since Saturday. What effect will this have? Probably muddied it all up, but fish the same areas you were catching them in... there really isnt much shoreline other than sea walls so you cant really get up into flooded stuff in most of the lake. Start out where you had success the last trip, adjust from there

If you are fishing any time in the next 2-3 days, I would head up West in the pads and on that small point/island on the left with a black popping frog. I've done that shortly after some other big rains and had a blast. You would be surprised how many good fish live in those pads year round. I've caught them over there in just about every month of the year and still my biggest fish out of Cypress (9#) came up there.
It will be the dirtiest water in the lake right now but they will still be there.

Thanks John, do you fish Cypress often? John is my little brother. He practically grew up on the lake.
