Guys I have an old MinnKota trolling motor. its 24 volt. Over the years I have tightened that tension screw to where its now bottomed out. The motor is starting to drift. I

am guessing I will need to replace the cable. Unless there is a better idea? Also how big of a job is this?

Not a difficult job at all. There are actually two cables. Take pictures of the cable routing in the head unit and the foot pedal prior to removing them to have something to reference when putting the new ones in. I recommend contacting John at Jones Trolling Motor Services to get the replacement cables. Have your model and serial number available and he will fix you up and answer any questions you may have about the replacement process.

Oil it. Everything on it. I bet it works like new after the oil job. Been there done it. Oil it. Simple deal. Oil the cable too. It even works better two days later after the oil soaks in. Oil it good. Thin oil works better. Soaks in better. Bunch of oil. You owe me. Lol

TAKE A PHOTO HOME NOT THE FISH. CATCH AND RELEASE
Set the hook first and ask questions later.

You need to take the head off and see what is broke, or if you have a bearing gone bad allowing the cables to pull the drum toward the cable stop. These cables don't stretch. If you're having to tighen the tension screw, something is wrong and it's usually in the head.
