I love doing some wade fishing in the surf when it's right. Usually down in Matagorda. But it's a drive for me to go down there and kinda disappointing when you go all that way and it's dirty and the trout aren't anywhere near the beach. Right now, I use SwellInfo.com and wunderground.com to try and make a guess at when the water is going to be good. Does anyone have a good source they use to get a good report on how the water looks? Maybe I need to find a "source" i can call anytime and they're like "it's green! cmon!"

I found that all prediction sites are full of sh.t... 1 out of 10 at best. The only way to have it -- is to live on the coast. Wake up in the morning, walk out on a beach, if it looks good -- jump in, if not -- go back to sleep.

Probably 50% of the time I thought the conditions were right from the chart and went down there it truly was good.

The Saltwater Recon site has live cameras that you can control (on pc or laptop, no mobile) and see live footage of the Galveston area. http://www.saltwater-recon.com

Find a local bait shop that has a facebook page and ask them the day before heading down there. Not saying the tide can't change water color over night but usually if it's green one day and the weather holds, it's a good chance there will be green water the next day. And by all means visit that tackle shop and tell them their FB page really helps.

I just check the wind direction- If there are Southeast prevalent winds for a few days and low wind speed, it's time to go.
