Sitting on our favorite point Saturday evening, peaceful and quiet, throwing a dropshot and daydreaming with the wife.
Two or three boats in the area, all just lazy fishing, doing the same. A dad and his son come near by and we start talking, dad's fishing a a wacky worm
and got a big ole backlash. While he's trying to get it picked out, a big bass jumps out in front of his boat about 30 feet or so.
Man the fight was on,...he's reeling and the bass is running all over the place. He tells his son, "get the net", which was down in one of the
storage comparments,..the son is about 18ish, grabs the net and the handle isn't attached. This fish is fighting like crazy,..round and round, the son
grabs just the net without the handle and trys to scoop the bass out of the water,..that won't work cause he can't reach it, he grabs the handle
and finally gets it on the net and lands the fish. Dad and son are both exhausted, and jumping up and down and laughing like crazy,...
They ask me if we have a scale, and quickly come over and weight this pig,...9 pounds 2 ounces, and measures 24 1/2 inches...after pictures and a
good release she swam off to fight another day...what a great video that would have made,...about 3-4 minutes of pure excitement.
It was the dads personal best,..the son was a nervous wreck, he just knew he was going to let that fish get away, but all worked out...great fun.. fish

Great story!

Odds are he wouldn't have gotten the bite if he hadn't backlashed. The fish prob bit the bait while it was sitting dead on the bottom.

Congrats to the angler and son!!

Oh hell, I misread it. Once your reel up the backlash it should be ok. Sounds like it was anyway
