2003 Tracker Tournament V18, can't find the fuel sending unit for the life of me. I can see the fuel tank, it's bloody huge, but I've looked all over the darn thing and can't find the unit.

Any ideas? My gauge is working, but always reads full while the ignition is on, and slowly goes to empty when I turn it off, it has to be a bad sender.

Are there wires on the gauge? (more than +12, lamp, and GND). There should probably be four. I think the sending signal wire is pink or pink with a white stripe for standard boat wiring, if I remember correctly.

No signal wire could mean that fuel level was an option, but guages went into all of them, just not the sender. The sender appears as a simple round flat plate on top of the tank, usually with 2 wires (where the second one is GND.) How good of a view are you getting for the top of the tank?

The gauge does has wires. The top wire is the lamp, then (in order) Send, Ground, Ignition (Power).

It gets power, it's on Empty when it is turned off and when I enable the ignition it slowly moves all the way to Full, which is why I think it's a sender problem, it has to be measuring infinite resistance because the sender is faulty, I just can't find the darn thing.

Unless there's a different way to troubleshoot a faulty gauge, when I turn off the gauge it falls slowly back to Empty.

Somewhere I have info on how to test a gauge calibration for E and F, but don't recall where it is. I've also only experienced sender failures. Traditional senders have a wiper-style varistor that is prone to wear failure. IT's got to be there on the tank.....and I've always seen them on top, never on side.

I have a 2001 V18 and the sending unit is under the seats, lift them up and it will be closer to the driver side. There is a cover that you'll need to remove to expose the sending unit. Took me forever to find it as well.
