just got 12' Heritage sit-on--- on clearance sale----want the rear to float a little higher or the front to float lower------plus my butt is sitting in a depression

adding stadium seat better???? adding weight to front ( like water filled jug or heavy anchor--something that can be taken out to reduce weight when loading)

or adding styrofoam to rear???

A little weigh in front should trim it. You could put some foam under the seat to ride a little higher.

Adding Styrofoam will not make it float higher.

Adding weight to the front will bring the front down if that is your desired effect.

Adding too much weight to the yak overall will bring it down in the water which will make it harder to control and to paddle.

Putting a high seat in it will raise you up (making you more comfortable?) but will also raise the Center of Gravity and could make your yak more unstable.

hmmm

Adding weight to a kayak is the last thing I'd ever do

First thing I'd do is add pool noodles (four on each side) inside the hull at the rear. Adding pool noodles will not improve the dry buoyancy of the kayak, but will improve the kayak's buoyancy if it takes on some water in the hull.

To make your seat more comfortable
--get some Lexel from Lowe's and Lexel a closed foam kneeling pad and Lexel it directly to the bottom of the seat (not to the kayak)

Before adhering the cushion on the underneath side of the seat; I put extra Lexel all around the edge of the cushion to make it water tight.

If you've had too much BBQ recently and are a bit heavy, dropping 10-20lbs would make a big difference to how the rear of the kayak sits in the water.

Also, check for any leaks at the rear of the kayak. If the rear of the bilge/hull has a small leak, the rear of the kayak will sit down in the water.

Several models by different manufacturers sit low. A Hobie Outback has always had that "look" to me. And, Wilderness Systems often have low sides, the idea being that they won't catch wind as much.

Speaking of Wilderness Kayaks, Chad Hoover's YouTube videos have shown him in one of the new Bonafide kayaks lately. I think I heard Chad say he weighs 278 lbs. and some of you who have been following the introduction of the Bonafide know it has that hard chine visible well above the water line. Not so "well above" with Chad sitting in it. It looks like he takes it down pretty far. Of course, he is big on heavy equipping and carries out a ton of stuff. Another guy fishing with him in a recent video also showed the vessel pretty danged close to looking like it'd swamp easily.

Well, I see it all the time where kayaks go by loaded up with stuff and the stern ends sitting low. I've never seen an issue with it.

Brad

works for me and might help others-----added a little weight in nose and added my little dog ( pulled the nose down a little for better tracking
Added two noodles but didn't help much ( will make more buoyant if turned over)--I weigh about 200 and sit-on kayak always has 1/2 of water flowing in and out
NOW-the best part----was very uncomfortable sitting ( poor back support, low seat) found waterproof one inch ground pads at Wal-Mart hunting section $4----added enough to sit higher but hasn't affected balance
BEST was adding light board for back support---added straps to pull tight( more upright) and added a metal doweling-cross piece to keep bottom of board stable ( drilled two holes, added 1/4 inch metal doweling and back
board was anchored 2 inches below doweling-----VERY COMFORTABLE
