I hiked in a small Dallas creek yesterday evening. I hadn't fished it in a few years. The creek had changed some from floods, I think for the better. Going in I knew there wouldn't be any big fish, but I enjoy doing this type of stuff. Here are a few pics and a video of the Rat Snake I came across. Didn't plan on this, just happened to be in the neighborhood and I only had one fly with me (backpack was at home being reorganized), luckily the fish liked it but wish I had a smaller one, a lot would hit it, but not get hooked.

Luv'in that little dude (pic before the snake) who obviously had an appetite larger than available stomach.
Upon release he could yet become the Phenom!

Chuck- No fish were kept on this trip, but I had my fish transporter with me. thumb Saving room for some Redspotted and Orangespotted, just need to find them. I have one Redspotted still kicking that you caught 2 springs ago. cheers

Psalty- I had to include the little guy, respect his attitude.

Forgot to mention, click on the last picture for video of the snake trying to touch me.

Side Note: Just like a Longear the Red Spotted are super fighters for their size! They can also hit a bait hard! boxing

Cool post. It's amazing to me how a 5 inch longear can get a size 6 fly in their mouth while an 8 inch bluegill can't seem to manage the task.

Haha- Ain't that the Truth Jamie. Longear have an attitude. I caught one where I walked too close to the nest. It spooked off but couldn't go far cause the pool was small, I casted to it anyway and it bit breakdance I love that about them, but it probably helps I'm fishing in places where they don't get any pressure.
