i was thinking on making a drop-shot rig for small ponds. Was just wanting some opinions and thoughts on this setup. The ponds will have grass lines and small structure on the bottom. Thanks for any advice

If you are fishing the pond from the bank and it has grass at the waters edge, you might have trouble hanging up the drop shot. If you are on the pond in a small boat, tube, or kayak, you should be fine throwing to the edge of the grass.

If you are on the bank, I would try a weightless senko or super fluke instead. Another option for small ponds are buzz baits, spinner baits, and top water baits.

If the cover you are fishing is significant then I would bump up my line size just a bit. Say you're using 8# test, I would would bump up to 10# or even 12#. Throwing a small senko on a drop shot is killer in ponds. I also found that using a zoom Super Fluke Jr. on a drop shot rig is a great producer. The main thing you're gonna have to remember is to beef up your line just a bit, especially if there is significant cover and big fish.

IMO...Unless you're fishing in Open Water, save yourself a lot of frustration and use the vmc spinshot hooks.... 1/0 -5/0 depending on size bait..and rig it weedless... Otherwise use the regular vmc spinshot drop shot hook. These hooks eliminate the line twist which can cause problems.. I have also figured out that the cylindrical-shaped weights work much better(less hang ups) than the round or dumbbell shape..
