So i tried deep cranking in the yak wed and well. it didnt work out. i pulled my self to the bait faster than it could get deep. any solutions? I've tried an anchor but i was still pulling my self along.

How about a big drift anchor? Looks like a wind sock or soft funnel. A one made for boat ought to really slow down the kayak and provide resistance to counter what a crank bait can cause.

I use a smaller one to slow down and control the kayak while drift fishing. It really does slow down the kayak when the wind wants to push me along faster than I want.

I've had that same exact problem when I tried to fish an XD-5. A drift sock could help but I think the best option is to change baits. Carolina rig, jigs, flutter spoons, slow rolling spinnerbaits won't pull you to the bait as bad. If you insist on using a crankbait, some medium divers with lower drag could work depending on where the fish are - Bandit 300, Norman N series, Bomber Fat Free Shad, etc.

Another option is to change your retrieve. Crank the bait deep and then pause every couple of seconds throughout the retrieve. This should reduce the pull over a steady retrieve.

Have you tried trolling deep diving cranks?

Don't see how a crank bait could pull an anchor.

Heavier or better anchor for the type bottom you're on and longer anchor line.

Before I got a peddle drive I used a drag anchor made of chain. It worked well for up to 6XD's then I had a larger piece I could put on to throw bigger baits like the 8 and 10 XD's.

I hate using it, but when I use an anchor, I use a 10 lb mushroom.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.
