Man, how many jugs for you fellas run? Sometime I can barely get six or eight jugs out before fish start hitting. All I have is 16 noodles. How many can you guys handle, especially in a small boat, single person?

7 has been the ticket for me! 1st one usually goes under as I am dropping the 7th. Works for me!

I drop 15 and check them in the morning. It's a lot of work for one guy in a small boat.

I always wondered the same thing. My dad was a jugger and it used to drive me crazy as a kid. It's a lot more fun (for me) reeling a biggun in on a string then it is yanking them out by a cord.

Different strokes, different folks. I'm a rod and reel guy too, but my roots are jugs and trot lines. I wouldn't be the cat fisherman I am without granddaddy taking me as the "bait boy" all those years. Coming up to a jug and having it disappear and pop back up 50 yards away is similar to the rush I get when my rod tip try's to touch the water and drag starts peeling off. You know it's a big one in both cases and that ol hearts starts pumping either way.

Since we are on the topic of jugs. Is it best to suspend and float the bait, or let weight keep bait toward the bottom in a stationary position?

channel, I suspend mine. I've tried anchoring. It's miserable, and I never caught many. Most of the guys in may area suspend, free-float jugs. We just let the wind and current drift the jugs just like drifting from the boat.
spazm, money. (1) I can't afford rod and reel. For $10 or $20 I can make 20 to 40 jugs and catch more fish per dollar spent than rod and reel. (2) I hate rod and reel fishing. I am not a sport fisherman. This is food for me. What I catch is what I eat. I handline most of the time. Jugs are just another kind of handline for me.
rob, yeah, I know it. It's work, especially with my Thai longtail motor. But again this is food for me, so work is okay.
azul, yeah, see, I'm not doing it for fun. I'm doing it for food. For some of us this is not a sport. It's how we feed ourselves.

I'll provide the boat and tackle and take you up to G Dam for fishing. You can keep all the fish, my wife doesn't like to eat them.

I generally run 3 dozen anchored jugs. Never attempted it alone. However, I suspect a dozen would be a large chore by yourself.
