Hello all! I've been a long time lurker on Fishing Forum...this is my first post! Always enjoy the discussions.
My wife and I will be moving to the Hudson Oaks area and I found that we'll be just a few minutes from Lake Weatherford. I'm excited to have some fishing so close by. What is everybody's experience been like around there? Any tips and tricks to remember? Looks like a nice place.
And...I remember that the Brazos runs through there south of Weatherford somewhere. I think that there's a boat ramp somewhere around Tin Top Road. If there is a ramp, what do y'all think about that stretch of river? Any good for trotlines? My first fishing love is the river and I can't wait to try this place out...if it's any good.
Looking forward to the replies! Everybody stay cool and have a great day today!

Lake Weatherford is real small, can get a layout of it in about 2 minutes, but does have a few fish in it. Brazos river generally not much water in it except when it floods. Welcome to the area.

There are four public places to fish in Weatherford: 1. Lake Weatherford. Try the wall area on the other side of the dam from the marina. Any of the locals can show you where it is, or try the marina barge. Although small the lake has big bass, crappie and catfish. 2. Sunshine Lake north of town. The best spot is near the boat ramp. Good bass and crappie. 3.Holland Lake Park. It is stocked with channel cat and trout in season. There are some giant catfish in the pond. Forget bass or sunfish. 4. Love Street Park on the west side. The locals catch bass from other lakes and dump them into the park. It is really just a large mud hole, but it has a handicap pier to fish from and sometimes big bass.
There are several good private lakes. If you can get permission there are bass. And if you drive a short distance Mineral Wells State Park is great for crappie, bass and huge catfish.
The Brazos River is available off Tin Top road with a good ramp and parking. The river is deep in this stretch and you can motor to Lake Granbury in one direction and Horseshoe Bend in the other. The river has good catfish, white bass and crappie.
. Seventy five years of chasing the elusive sunfish.

There is a lot of boat docks to fish on Weatherford. That is about the only place I can find them. Like Smithaven said, Tin Top has a good ramp and is deep in that area. There are several feeder creeks that tie into the Brazos that you might be able to run some lines. Good Luck

Fish the rip-rap on the dam during the spawn. We also used to fish the cheat house(concrete structure off the dam)but they would run us off if they caught us...........
