I was gifted a 60-70 year old bamboo fly rod a few weeks ago and took it out for the first time today. I have to say I like it as much maybe more than my TFO. I ended up getting about 18 of these in two hours of the hottest part of the day.

That's awesome! I've got an old bamboo rod that I'm intending to restore soon. It's not quite fishable in its present condition, but it's close.

Are there any markings on the rod to let you know who the maker was?

How does it fish? I'm looking at a few Heddons online right now.

I have a very old Zebco spinning reel that was given to me by my dad. I still use it two or three times a year. I get a huge amount of satisfaction from every fish I catch using it. Proper care goes a long way. woot

Side note. Not to mention the memories I have fishing with my dad.

It maybe a little slower rod than my TFO Pro Special. Still very easy to cast and its a very sensitive rod. Make sure you get one with an extra tip, sock and tube. If you can check it out in person make sure you check the furrules, some Heddons have problems with them cracking.

I have a couple of my grandfathers Zebco glass rods with offset reel seats and the flat sided closed face reels. I don't fish them much but I should. The reels need a little work, not much maybe a little grease and one of the rods needs new cork. I need to find someone here in DFW that could work on them.

Great stuff Mitt. I've never fished with a Bamboo rod. It would be cool just to have one. Getting to fish with a nice antique one is even better.
