I was a banker in Colleyville back then and Bob Garcia was my customer. I still have a hand drawn map he made me on Monticello. Pretty neat to look at it now as it shows Garcia's hump. Matches GPS maps pretty good. Good ole days.

"Garcia's Hump". How many lakes have such a good area, named after the guy that made it famous?

I remember it well, it was the year my boat passed me on a curve on the way to Monty. Good times.

I remember that to this day too, Cold and few flurries if I remember it correctly. I was there to see this fish when the picture was taken. Growing up in Mt Pleasant had its privileges when it came to fishing!

If I remember correctly, that took Monticello from a nice well kept secret honey hole to a famous overcrowded hotspot. And I am an old fart

If I'm not mistaken the previous record that this fish broke was a 13.5# fish from Lake Medina west of San Antonio. I recently read a story about how/when etc... the Florida strain fish were introduced in Texas. They "Thought" it was in the early 70s but the fish from Medina was somehow tested and determined it was a pure Florida strain. The Medina fish which was caught almost 30 years before Florida's were officially introduced.

I was on Hawkins or Winnsboro 3 days a week around then....a 14 year old with an aluminum home made bass boat, a driver's license (hardship because Dad was a Dallas fireman), and a 1969 model ford pickup with 3 on the tree..... I was the master of all I surveyed ..... I sure miss that boat.

So you had a boat when you were 6 ?
