I have some old BC glass rods with long wooden handles and I have some old ones with long cork handles. The finishes have peeled off the wooden handled ones and the cork handled ones are getting pretty dry looking. What type of preservatives would I use on each please?

If you have a dirty cork handle and pits in them this is what I do. Wash the cork handles with some dawn , warm water and a mild scrubbing sponge. Clean it real good, and then take the sponge and dip it in bleach and bleach your cork. This should make it look new again. Now wait a day for it to dry. Once dry, take some Elmers (Golden Oak) wood putty and slather it in all the cork pits along with the entire rod handle. Let dry several days, and then lightly sand all the putty off. Once this is done your cork handle will look new again. Once done seal the cork with U-40 cork sealer. That's it.

Thanks, I've been doing this for about 10 years on a lot of rods I get to fix from my bass club, and it works. The best solution is to seal your cork grips as soon as you take the plastic off of a brand new rod. This will fill and seal the cork, hardening it and keeping pits from starting.
