Could someone point me in the right direction on kayak rack ideas and options (new.. used..or DIY).I need to mount four yaks on an 06 GMC serria...I usually just throw them on my utility trailer...but I'll be pulling my boat on this trip as well....Thanks.

Depending on the size of the boats, you could probably get them on a regular Yakima rack with a stacker and some creative strapping. I've seen some amazingly creative work in that regard before. Strap each boat individually, and put a bow and stern line on them all.

If you don't weld then talk to these guys above or someone about building a rack. I made a collapsible rack that I put in the bed of my GMC and use the factory tie downs and heavy ratchet strap to hold it in. I also welded some chains to it that I hook to the tie downs for added safety. When I'm not using it I take it apart and stack it against the wall of my shed. Sorry I don't have any pictures of it with me or I would post it. It used to be in the rigging section but it has been removed I guess.

Hey Troy, just noticed you are in Carthage. I've got something that might work that you're more than welcomed to use for your trip if it fits. A good friend in Carthage made it for me for a trip we took to Falcon a few years ago... in his GMC Sierra pulling his boat. I was impressed with his quick effort (oil field guy) as he had never seen a kayak rack until he made it. Its semi adjustable as he had all the pipe threaded. I am planning to be in Carthage in the next day or two (flexible) if you want to check it out. It will definitely carry the weight of four kayaks. All you would need are 4 threaded extension pipes of about 36 inches each to make it work. Just pm me if interested. If anyone else up this way needs use it sometime, just let me know. This is one of the corners that would need extensions screwed in.
