So...this is not a joke....
My friend and I were fishing up by the top of Little Caney Sat evening...and we were hearing fireworks pretty regularly. We were fishing the banks and started trolling into this cove....(see attached)
as we were fishing we started hearing gunfire in the distance...(I figured it was pretty normal)....about 1 minute later we hear a ricochet ....and then 10 foot in front of the boat...directly in our line of trolling a bullet hits the water and makes a huge splash.... Had we been 10 or 15 seconds further along in our trolling, it def would have taken one of us out.... We started yelling and as we try to hide as manly as possible underneath the consoles. The gunfire stopped for a second, we turned on the motor and made a u turn out of there...and then heard more gunfire...

I talked to a few people and they said maybe someone was actually shooting at us but we heard 15-20 gunshots and only saw one splash...maybe? They must have been a really bad shot...but I don't know...we didn't stick around long enough to find out....

I'm just posting this a warning to anyone else, just be careful in that location...(maybe this guy who is shooting has no idea his bullets sometimes hit the water)?

Is that something you report to the police or just shrug it off as a accident? What would you guys do in that situation? Fire back? leave, call the police?


There's a lot of things I would do for a 10lber...taking a bullet is not one of them....we'll maybe for a 18 or 20lber...

Call the police and Game Warden.

Damn! We were up in LC Sat night too. We saw the fireworks, but weren't as deep in LC as y'all were. We went to another part of the lake as there were too many people fishing up there. Glad y'all are okay. Definitely call the Game Warden as soon as something like that happens.

Had this happen on Palestine, called 911, nothing ever happened. Freaky to have 15-20 rounds whiz over head when you're the only boat on the water...

Maybe 7-10 years ago a friend and I got shot at from 2 guys in the woods on Chaney. 1st shot got our attention, 2nd shot and we knew what was happening, 3rd shot and we saw the two guys with a gun in the woods.

We got the heck out of there ASAP.

I definitely don't think firing back is the way to play that - being in a bass boat is the last place I'd want to be in a gunfight. Getting out of Dodge as fast as you can seems the best idea.

Only thing you did "wrong" was not call the law when it happened so they could hopefully catch the idiots in the act. Glad you weren't hurt.

Did you see anybody? If Im not mistaken, that's a field that the bullets came from. Couldve been someone shooting a 22 or something.

What time were you in that field, Stinkey?

I had this happen to me on Athens and the Game Warden responded in a heartbeat and got their butts straight real fast.

Updated us with a phone call afterwards as well.

Target shooting across property lines is a Game Warden favorite.

Update 1 - Just contacted the Game Warden - Dwayne Noble. He asked that I send him a drop pin of the location. Done....

He informed me there is someone on Fork they have had complaints about before and they are going to see if it might be the same person.

To give more details, it was around 6-7pm when we were there.... We did not see anyone in sight..there looks like a big cow field and a hill when we looked in the direction of the shooting...so the bullet had to go over a hill and come down at a 45 degree angle...

If you look on Google Earth...there can't be that many culprits.... there is just one farm to the right of where our boat was....

I just want to clarify...it seemed to come from that direction... I can't prove or be 100% sure...but based on the impact of the splash (impact from right, splashed to the left from what I remember) I assume it was from that direction.

Also if you zoom out you can see, it could have come from somewhere else if the bullet went through the trees... see pic 2...
