I have been up there 3 times always with a guide. We stayed at the casino for a decent priced room. August fishing slows down a little they say. Lots of rock reefs out in the lake to fish. It's a great place to go. I was just there in early June catching 4 pound plus Smallmouths off beds. We saw so many cruisers it was ridiculous. Population of fish is healthy. I imagine in August they are deep and it's a electronics game. I would recommend getting a guide for day one and let him set you up on what's happening. Josh Douglass is a real good one.

We always fished from the mid lake to south.

Been a couple of times to fish and golf. We only fished for walleye. Interesting lake and beautiful area....in the summer. We stayed at Izady's.

I would highly recommend Josh Douglas if you hit up a guide. He is working with Seth Feider this year up there and is great to be in the boat with. You can check out his youtube channel and his website, he does a ton of instructional video fishing and with his electronics, if needed PM me and I can get you his number.

We suggest you contact Eddy Lyback, at Lybacks Marine and he can help. He's fifth generation Mille Lacs, in Isle, MN and Seth's boat dealer. He can put you with a good resort and more.

I am from the area and have a cabin on the NE side. Summer fishing can be tough if ya don't know what you are doing. I would definitely recommend a guide for a day our two to show you how to fish this lake. It's one of those lakes where if ya don't know what you are looking for, everything looks good. A guide can show you how to fish the lake and what to look for. Check out Dragon Slayers Guide Service. This is the guide service that Seth Feider put together. There are 3 other guys that guide through this service and all are great guides.

There are also a few other guides services that are really good. Check out Jeremiah Johnson as well. This dude does some guide trips up there and catches giants. He has taken Zona out quite a few times and done shows with him.

A couple other great guides are Jim DeRosa and Mark Schultz.

If you do go out on your own you will want to play the wind. If the wind is out of the west, fish the west side and if out of the east fish the east side. Both have really really good fishing. Check out Seth Feider's youtube video after his win at the AOY Championship. He spilled the beans on how to catch big fish in the summer and early fall out there. Targetting big boulders with dropshots. It's the best way to catch giants out there. Have fun, Ill be up there Friday :-)
