Nice haul. Good job. Side note. How deep were you catching them.

Along a weed line at a depth that varied 12-18 feet. In April they were spawning in some stick-ups at 5-6' no more than 30 feet from where these guys were caught. They just moved into some deeper water in the vicinity where they spawned earlier.

Nice catch. I have a meeting next month in Temple and was thinking about kayak fishing at Stillhouse. Any put in areas there and other advice. Never have fished there before.

J-Moe, in that area there are both - some gradual slopes and some steep. A couple areas along that bank it looked (on sonar) almost like a stair step. Stillhouse has some extremely steep drop-offs and cliffs. It is not uncommon to be in 5' of water move 10-15 feet and you are in 20-30' of water. The big gill love those cliffs and steep drop-offs. In addition to the weeds & sticks-ups there is also an abundance of hydrilla. Belton Lake also has some big gill and redear.
Lampasas River feeds Stillhouse and the state record gill came out of the Lampasas River.
There are several parks and camping grounds at Stillhouse. You can use a RV/travel trailer or just a tent. The are several free access parks to launch your boat and plenty of places to launch a yak. A favorite of the yakers is Gravel Crossing on the Lampasas River. Google "Gravel Crossing" and look at the river with google maps and follow it to the lake. It's only a few miles from the main lake and has some awesome twist and turm in the river channel. You can catch anything and everything.
