I know yall done heard its a done deal and Rollover's good as filled in and sealed over.

NOT YET IT AIN'T!

TPWD has been caught in a forty year old lie to the feds and in spite of their insisting none are here, Rollover has been determined to be a very important migratory route for the American Eel.

Not only, but we might see the American Eel as one of the most cultured species for food in Texas. The eel trade could and might yet rival the energy biz in Texas. Eels are the seventh most consumed fish species on the planet and are part of a multi-billion dollar industry. Texas has the natural, human and marketing resources to make it so.

We just need to finish getting over the hurdle of the anti-business mentality at TPWD to help it happen. One of the goals of those of us trying to develop and industry here is to help provide for gainful employment of our veterans and others seeking to improve their lives through hard work and opportunity.

Good Luck !!!

You guy's and your efforts will be in my prayers.

LOL. Greenpeace strikes again! (I don't care about Rollover, but find it amusing courts can take this BS argument seriously)

Cant wait till this is out of the way, lots of big trout come out of there every year......personally i think the next Texas state record may come from there if it were to stay open.

It's always fun to watch when TP&W gets called out. That what they get for glad-handing for donations to run the parks when the sporting goods tax we pay is supposed to do that.

Just curious, are you a fisheries biologist? What part of the argument do you find to be BS?

1) The state agency lied for political gain?

2) Rollover pass is not an important American Eel migration route? Especially since the eels have not been able to migrate in and out of the Neches for forty years.

3) American eels are neither ecologically nor economically important?

4) Rollover Pass is not worth keeping open for any reason whatsoever?

5) Greenpeace=fishing public and entrepreneurs just because these two groups are ecologically aware and fighting for their respective rights?

6) ????

Help me out here, I've an open mind on the subject.

Eels were migrating for millions of years, Rollover exists for few decades. If you completely fill pass between bolivar and galveston -- then (maybe!) Rollover will become an "important" path (as result of being the only connection between bay and sea in the region). Which I doubt because ICW connects to Gulf in so many places and there is SLP too.

Following their logic, I could dig a trench that connects bay to gulf at any place on any barrier island -- it automatically becomes a national treasure.

Does it help?

Sounds just like Rollover. Close it and be done with it

Nope. First, the natural route (Neches River) was closed, then the pass become the new route for migration as it was the next closest place the now trapped elvers could move upstream. So, take out the barrier in the Neches (a rich politician built yachting basin approved by the FEDS AFTER TPWD did an environmental impact study saying there were no American Eels in that watershed, which was a bald faced lie) and THEN close the pass and you got an answer.

The pass further West, (ship channel) is not an important eel migration route like the Rollover pass is. As you go further South and West, there are less and less eels migrating inshore to grow into adults. Their natural range and habitats have been largely dammed, channelized, dredged, drained, modified, and changed up to the extent many natural migrations no longer occur.

Closing Rollover just another short sided political move on the part of the infinitely omniscient TP&WD in order to protect their respective arses from being caught up in another bald faced, politically motivated lie.

Keeping it open, and furthermore, perhaps removing the offending barriers (salt water intrusion dams, freshwater holding dams, boating basins, and other structures) in other bayous and rivers would make Rollover a less important migration route and less of an issue to close down. But I doubt any of that will happen, so the pass needs to stay open.

Dude. Millions. Years. Eels survived just fine all changes to rivers, seas, multiple glaciations and etc. Neches is just one river in the region. There is a bunch of other ways to get into ICW and everything else it connects to.

You may be correct, but this argument is not gonna work in my opinion.
