A buddy and myself are thinking about planning a trip for him to come down from West Texas and either hitting Belton or Stillhouse. We know nothing of this lake. Anybody have any suggestions which one to go to? Both? Any particular areas to hit?

I can tell you that Belton can be very tough at times to fish for LMB.
And if your going on the weekend, watch out for the Temple park area, lots of jet skiers, para sailers, etc.
And they are oblivious to anything around them.
As for the lake, it has very steep banks in a lot of the areas. You can be ten feet from the shore, and be in 20 feet of water. And the middle is pretty deep.
Not a lot of vegetation
, and I seemed to have best luck flipping the docks and houseboat areas.
Don't get me wrong, I love Belton, much better then my home, Lake Waco.

I consider Belton as my "home lake" and it can be super stingy at times, esp LMB. Ive had to fish it hard all day and still barely fill a bag. - disclaimer... i aint no pro.  I'm surprised to hear you pick Belton over Waco (I'm not judging) as the Jul/Aug Bassmaster magazine actually rated lake Waco in the top 20 for the central division. That included from Texas north to North Dakota and from Minnesota South to Louisiana.

Fish them both. Only 20 min. apart.

You would catch more fish at waco, of stillhouse and belton not sure which one is fishing better right now, last I heard it was stillhouse but been awhile back, night fishing can be good on belton in the summer, once the sun gets up its tough.
