Some dark wood stain and a paper towel does a great job that lasts.

"..The pleasantist angling is to see the fish
Cut with her golden oars the silver stream,
And greedily devour the treacherous bait.

Take a look at this paint on Tackle Warehouse. It does real well.

I don't understand people saying using a black marker. Isn't black the most visible under water?

The black is "flat black" so it has little reflectivity. White would be the most visible underwater if you think about it. I think black is typically mentioned because it is readily available. I often use green, which is harder to find, but seems even more natural around vegetation.

Isn't the first color that disappears RED? I don't buy into the whole color your braid, but I don't use braid for slow moving baits. I basically only use it for froggin' and a trap.

Fish dont care. If it makes you feel better, color it.

Red is the first to disappear, looks gray the quickest. They (colors) are all gone by about 33 feet, not that we often fish at that depth.

I'd think it makes sense to dim some of the really bright braided lines some of us use for line watching like the bright yellow and chartreuse lines.

I don't color braided lines. But, it is another one of these tiny details that "might" make .001% difference and many are willing to grab any perceived advantage at all.

Exactly. Fish can see all colors and that is why you get bit on so many different ones,,,,they CAN SEE THEM ALL.
Black, white, red, green, blue, purple, yellow, orange, tequila sunrise, morning dawn, red bug, junebug, bama bug, Aarons, magic, trophy hunter, chartruce, motor oil,,,,,,,, LOL the list goes on and on.

Green sharpie marker works too. It's a close match to the moss green PowerPro.

I don't believe that bass "think" like we view intelligence/intellect/reasoning but I do believe they notice what is natural or not natural, which can affect their commitment to a strike if they have time to notice the line. I don't believe any color is invisible to the fish. Within a few feet of the surface, there's little impact of the water as a filter. (Red is still very red to the human eye, for instance.) I've done over 1000 SCUBA dives in my lifetime, so I should know. What I feel I accomplish by coloring braid with NATURAL colors (black, green, black/green camo) found in the fish's environment is to avoid giving indicators that all is not quite right.

An example of a fish's reaction I've seen is bass moving large swimbaits from their bed. It's amazing how they manage to pick it up "just right" such a large percentage of the time so that they avoid the hooks. It looks very deliberate when they do it over and over.
