Looking for info and opinions from long time tournament fisherman here. Why is it that a lake that is as popular with tournaments, both large and small has only one option for a ramp/host site? Log Cabin is the only game in town it seems. The ramp is a good one there, but parking is terrible especially with conditions the way they've been the last couple days. I love slogging through the mud in their fields. I understand why they don't upgrade and pave. Why should they? Where is their competition? Has it always been this way down there? Has no one else tried to start a ramp or marina that could hold a large or even medium size event? With a lake that size, you would think there would be a LOT more options.

That's not what I'm asking. I'm wondering why there are no other decent launch facilities on the lake? We have a tournament there this Saturday. So does Lake Tawakoni Bass Club. Between the Clubs we will draw over 70 boats. It would be nice to not get in each others way. The public ramp is not large enough to host either of us. If there was another facility somewhere on the lake we would use it. There is not. Did there used to be? And why no large marinas on the lake?

Tom Finley Park on the 334 causeway between Gun Barrel and Seven Points has a two lane ramp and adequate parking for a small/medium club tourney or two. Three dollar park entry, attendant on duty during normal working hours, "Iron Ranger" drop box for honor system payments when attendant is not around. Only drawback is it's a longer run to get down South to the "fishy" areas.

i have always been puzzled by that situation Tom. its crazy. halfway decent lodging is pretty limited as well. a couple of motels is about it unless you know someone with a lakehouse.

Cost of property large enough to hold and host large number of boats is more valuable to developers for lake front house than ramp and pavailian. I haven't run numbers but I'm guessing payoff would be quicker for return on investment than waiting on return for boat launches and tournament hosting.

I have often wondered this as well. The old Sunny Glen property is just sitting there going to waste. I think whoever owns this property is waiting on an investor to offer the right amount of money and it would turn into a housing community as well. I dont think there is a whole lot of lakefront acres for sale anymore. Investors have bought it all and are putting houses on it. The new Long Cove on the south end of the Caney bridge is prime example.

what is going in over on the west side of the dam? There's a bunch of dirt being moved around and some pretty massive cranes and other equipment out there, looks like a big project whatever it is.

Pipeline upgrade. Lake was built for the purpose of supplying water to Tarrant County. Gotta keep those Ft. Worth lawns green...

Got this off the Gun Barrel City Economic Development Council website:

"Big Chief Landing - Demolition of old buildings have been completed and property is being maintained. The free boat launch is underway to attract boaters and fishermen to our lake. Lowe's has contributed six picnic tables to kickstart development of a park there." (Big Chief is just before the 334 bridge heading towards Seven Points)

Have to wait and see where this goes...

If trails like champs can host 220+ boats, without a hitch, I assure you, 70 boats between a couple of clubs want be a problem. With that being said, might consider staggering your weight-in time. Either way, shouldn't be a problem. IMO
