Anyone else having trouble with hook ups on the Live Target Perch..

I went a farm pond to test this bait.. Had tons of blow ups but the hook up ratio is horrible..

This bait looks so awesome on the water but I don't have the confidence with the hook up ratio..

I tried other baits, like Frogs and buzzbaits and had better hook up ratio than the Live Target Perch on the same body of water..

Anyone else seeing this?

Never used one or even taken a hard look at them but I might suggest upgrading the hooks. More often than not, the trebles that baits come with are only as good as the manufacturer can get away with.

They don't havery trebles. They are a hollow body topwater.

I have the same trouble , bent hooks out some , helped . I would say if you hook 25% with it , your doing good . Its a great prefishing bait , you can't sore mouth many .

Correct.. They have the double Frog Hook.. But I think the body doesn't collapse enough to get a good hook set.. I tried letting them eat it but the bait just comes flying back and the weight on the bottom of the hook comes out of the bait..

My mistake. Didn't even know they carried a hollow body. I've only ever seen the jerk baits and swimbaits. Thanks.

I have used these lake fork frog hooks with success on live target bait
. if you cast to open water they work great but if you land in slop 1/2 the time the hook will land down and you get to reel in a big glob of moss.

but the hookup ratio is 50-60% better

Hollow body topwater baits aren't for everyone. Lots of heartbreak involved. You can do everything right and still lose a lot of fish.

They are not durable. I have a couple of the two sizes, and after a few better fish, the disc weight area where the hook seats in tears and the hook wont stay in it. Fixed them a few times a few different ways and wont stay.

When i have blowups that arent connecting its because theyre smaller fish. First ill go from a steady retrieve to walking or popping the frog just to slow it down a bit. Second ill downsize to a small frog. You're gonna have a dinkfest but you will catch the fish. I have gone thru 3-4 frogs in the last month following this method.

Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

Funny that your having issues... the live target perch is my BEST hook up ratio frog type bait. I hook 80% or better. I use the full size not the small one. Ypu can pull the hooks up and out some, i do it with some frogs.

That said my opinion is that fish 4+ pounds are what im targetting with those baits, rarely do you miss or lose fish 4+ on frogs imo. If your around a lot of 1.5-2 lbs, you ratio will suck cause they dont engulf the bait, they just pull it down
