Met up with Jamie aka J-Moe the other morning and we fished the Sabinal River. We met in D Hanis and grabbed a couple of breakfast tacos. We got to the river just after day break. There were thunder storms in the area but none of them played a factor in our fishing. Jamie was using his fly rods and I was using my trusty ultra lights with live night crawlers. The bite was good. We caught some nice Bluegill,Bass,a couple of Rios including one very old female bull,a couple of small Greens and a few Longear rounded out the catch. We tried to get Jamie to break into the fly records of the Sabinal River but that day was not the day. The Rios would not touch his fly. There is always next time. We still had a great time fishing a beautiful place. After fishing the Sabinal we stopped at the Hondo Creek on our way home and caught a couple more nice Bluegills. All fish were released. Fishing the Sabinal Valley with a super fly angler and friend. It just don't get any better! fish

Thanks Will. Rios for the most part live 3 to 4 years max in ideal conditions. Life on the Sabinal can be pretty rough as a fish especially if the fish finds itself in a water bed that is not spring fed. They also have to dodge the Raccoons,Bob Cats,Possums, etc. That fish has led a hard life. I would say 3 years old. Just guessing. 2cents

Wow! If that fish could talk, imagine the stories it would tell.

I am sure one of her stories would be how she almost took J-Moe's fly and instead took Banker's night crawler and got caught! hooked lol_2

Thanks Chuck, it was a great time, as always. Those were a couple nice Rios and a big bass you caught thumb

This was a whole new experience for me and I learned a lot. The fact that the creek bed is completely dry with the exception of spring feed deep holes about a 1/4 mile apart was something I never even knew existed. If I looked at Google Earth I would have dismissed the creek entirely. It was definitely unique and something I will remember.

Thanks Gitter for the reply. I have seen a variety of fish. Sunfish,Gar,Carp,Rios,Channel Cats, and Bass. As Jamie stated the holes were about a quarter of a mile apart. Most of the holes are spring fed and do have water in them year around. Right now the springs are full. Would love to see one more nice solid rain the next couple of weeks. That would really help. thumb
