Ok, I know many of you have much more on the water experience than I, So what do you do when you are
caught in a storm on the lake and running back to the dock isn't really an option?

Depends....what kind of storm?
Common sense will dictate the correct move. A boat isn't worth a life. Not even a $70k one. Beach it and tie it to a rock or something and take cover. Wait it out. I guess. Lightning? Get out of the boat and get under cover somewhere. Wind? Find a cove. Worse? I haven't had the opportunity to experience it yet. I watch the weather Apps I have if I think it could get bad. Proactive beats getting caught out.

If it's lightning-find a dock and get under cover or beach the boat and get on the bankunder cover.
Bad wind - find a protected cove and take cover, wait it out.
Paying attention is the biggest thing. There's no shame in beaching the boat and waiting it put. Love to fish another day.

I fully get the fact of being proactive and always try to plan for the worst. But here lately if you listen to the lying weathermen you will either set home and get no rain, or fish in a storm. lol

Being proactive does take into account the weathermans "loose" predictions. With the radar app, you are Eliminating the weather mans prediction entirely. You open the app....see the storms and their tracks....and make a decision. Simple.

I'm a kayak fisherman, so getting back quick is not really an option. For me it's all about being observant. Check the hourly forecast ahead of time, know when the highest storm chances are, and plan your trip around that. Storms here almost always come from the west, so CONSTANTLY check the sky in that general direction while you're out. If I see ANYTHING start building that way, I usually go ahead and start working my way back to the ramp so that I can get out quick. You can always fish around the ramp area until it gets closer, then you maximize time on the water without being overly risky.

If the chances are good of one blowing up look around ahead of time for a dock to get under. I spent 45 minutes in one last Sunday at the back of Flat Creek. I saw it that morning. Their is no way you can rush out of there when one comes in a hurry.
