Bummer.... TRWD Flyfest and Texas Fly Fish and Brew Festival are canceled. Change of plans, going to try fishing the Trinity if the weather permits.

Limited out last weekend at Pebblebrook Community Park pond in Sherman. The discount switch rod worked well along with the Rubber Legged Near Deere and Mop Fly! Had trout readily taking both fishing flies but the Rubber Legged Near Deere seemed to get more strikes than the Mop Fly.

The Discount Switch Rod worked nicely. Ease of casting for distance when needed while minimizing false casting meant more time fishing the fly in the water and not in the air being cast! Able to demo how we cast with the setup and manage the line... OPST Lazar Line can get in the way at times.

Also, did mention the Trinity and the tough go we had fishing it Saturday, March 14.

Finding Spawning White Bass in Texas... #sandbass #whitebass
Back in the day, we would drive by the boat ramp on the Nueces River, and when we saw lots of cars, trucks, and boat trailers, we would put in the jon boat.

Now a days, we prefer to wait till warmer weather and when the spawn is over and the White Bass are schooling on the lake.

But, if we were to fish the spawn aka White Bass/Sandy Run, we would hire a local guide, or do some online scouting!

Do check out the video for more details on finding white bass during the spawning run!

It's not fly fishing but am certain a Bass or two would have been caught this round at the local pond... used Senkos and a modified EmmRod - spinning rod and fly rod. What is promising is Bass are on beds and they are active! Now... if only could make a Senko fishing fly!

For those that do fish Senkos, note the tips in the video... specifically, making your Senko last longer. Only used one Senko this trip!
Skip to 4:50 to see the Super Glue being used.
Skip to 6:40 to see another tip to make the Senko last longer!

On the subject of fly for Senkos, I've been wondering if a person could get some thicker squirmy worm material and tie it on say a size 2 or 4 book and dead stick it in likely bass areas.

I haven't set seen the material any thicker than the stuff that goes on a a #10 of 12 book though.

Have tried using a woolly yarn with mixed results... meaning can cast the fly and it sinks enticingly, but so far no takers.

When You Can't Go Fishing, We Can Talk Fishing...!

Rain and cold has me indoors. No worries, can always talk fishing. Meaning making preps for our next fishing trips. This time it's about review past videos, current videos, and online scouting. In particular, Senkos for Bass, EmmRod for a commuter fishing rod, and current action on bass and white bass in the area!

Not fly fishing but the key take away... Bass on their beds! Working on modifying a pattern to use next round using the fly rod instead of the bait casting rod.

Bass Fishing with Senkos This Round #bethanylakes #bass
Able to fish the local lake Saturday with the break in the rain. Caught four bass that were in their beds. Fun time... do checkout the video, gives an idea how I rig a Senko - new as well as damaged... forgot the Superglue this time. Also, shows some bass takes a little more coaxing to strike!

Fishing the Bass on Bed Fly #bassfishing #flyfishing
Able to fish the local pond with the Bass on Bed Fly. First round struck out, had bass on either broke the line; was using 4lbs test. Or, missed the hook set, else Bass threw the hook.

Next round, modified the Bass On Bed Fly by adding more marabou plumes tied on the pool bend. Caught two Bass, success! Not sure what to call the pattern... for now it's the Bass On Bed Fly aka BOB Fly with a plume! Do give it a try!

Fly Fishing for Bass with the Bass On Bed Fly #bobtail #bobfly
Back out to the local pond catching bass with the variant of then BOB fly... this one has added plumes to keep the hook riding high while on the bottom. Calling it the BOBTAIL Fly.

Caught a little Bass with a Foam Grasshopper and a Sunfish... switched to the Foam Grasshopper because it was hard to see the BOBTAIL Fly due to the angle of the sun and the wind waves roiling up the water.

Spied a Bass lurking by the outflow of the waterfall pool... switched back to the BOBTAIL Fly and got his attention. Nice sized Bass that reminded us of the ones that used to lurk in the pond!

Good Stuff!

Thanks! Tied another variant of the BOBTAIL Fly... this one is different, no dumbbell eyes, and only marabou plumes on the hook bend, and then saddle hackle for the body. More to come... Bass were cruising instead of on their beds Saturday. Caught one one a Grasshopper and lost one bringing it in as well. Nice day with lots of social distancing room!

Fly Fishing the Local Pond #foamgrasshopper Fished the local pond for Bass in hope of catching a fish or two with a new pattern modified from two variants of the BOB Fly or Bass On Bed Fly. Test was thrown a curve... bass were cruising the shallows instead of on their beds. Good thing the Foam Grasshopper was in the fly box!
