Made a stop on the way home from work Monday. Rain was in the forecast but was able to catch a Bass and Bluegill or two or more before the rain arrived. Use the TFO 6wt Fly Rod; Echo Ion 6/7/ Wt Reel, and OPST Commando to cast Damsel Flies, a variant of one, and Tube Fly Poppers. The Damsel Fly Variant did well catching them... even had fun catch a nice Bluegill that bent the rod well! More Fish on the Fly... Fly Fishing at the Local Pond! #flyfishing

That time of year when kayak fishing and fly fishing conflict... sidetracked kayak fishing yesterday. Was windy but did notice fish were caught within casting distance from the bank!

Quote
First kayak fishing trip this year. Fished the local lake (Lake Lavon) on a windy day. Trolled slab and jig rigs and managed to catch a White Bass and a Yellow Bass. Kept them for a catch and cook video to show how to cook them - split them butterfly style from the back, leave the skin and scales, and marinade for a couple of hours, then pan fry till crispy. Also, did a quick demo of why we like the Zebco Rod/Reel combo we use as a backup rod when kayak fishing... it floats!

Went kayak fishing yesterday on the local lake. Caught five Catfish using Shad on Juglines. Filleted them and cooked them blackened fish style. Tasty meal but still got a ways to go before the video is done; will get it posted soon as we can....

For now, did a quick trip with the Telescoping Micro Fly Rod trying to catch a small fish on a size 32 fly. Bluegill took it, switched to a size 18 Griffiths Gnat and caught a Sunfish. Fun times, especially with a rod that fits conveniently in a pocket. Do stay tuned for more on yesterday's kayak fishing video!

Alrighty, getting questions about the micro fly rods we use as well as another Near Deere Give Away! This round we show four Micro Fly Rods. And then, we end with a Near Deere Give Away. This give away is for three Near Deere - Olive, White, and Pink! Blog Post

Few different species from this morning from a local pond. All caught on a size 12 black woolly bugger that I tied. Water was pretty murky from rain yesterday so was a bit slow but enticed more than a handful to bite. Smaller bass like the one pictured are an absolute blast on a 4wt rod.

Was not a fly fishing but they do make a fly rod version of this rod....

On a whim bought an EmmRod in their Kayak King Spinning Rod model to use for kayak fishing. Rigged up an old spinning reel that we managed to get working again... 30+ year old reel, and then mounted it on the EmmRod. Took it to a local pond and free-lined bread "mashed" around a circle hook. After about 15" caught a nice Catfish! Not bad for the first cast, first fish on the little rod. Cannot wait to try it kayak fishing!

Bluegill bite was hot late yesterday afternoon at a local pond. They were hammering the size 12 black woolly bugger with a strip-strip-strip-pause retrieve. Only a handful pictured below but probably landed about a dozen. These guys always put up a surprisingly strong fight on the 4 wt - there were numerous times I thought I had a small bass on!

Very nice! Been sidetracked fishing with the EmmRod... But ordered the fly rod from them. Hope to try it out sooner than later!

Here is the second fish caught in the Kayak King model...

Liked the EmmRod Kayak King for fishing the local ponds for Catfish. Hope to try it out kayak fishing sooner than later. Decided to order their fly rod model.

It came in today! Opened the box and checked it out. Looks promising. Was trying to decide on mounting the 2/3 Wt Echo Ion Fly Reel with a Rio Trout Max shooting head or the 4/5 Wt Echo Ion Fly Reel with the OPST Commando Head and Lazerline running line.

Still deciding but hope to fish it this weekend, too! More to come!

Liked the EmmRod Kayak King for fishing the local pond for Catfish. Ordered the Fly Rod, arrived yesterday but was not able to fish it till today. Had to make a run to Fort Worth, so brought the EmmRod Fly Rod and several Near Deere fishing flies just in case we had a chance at fishing today. Was able to fish with it on the Trinity River in Fort Worth. Water was high with lots of flow from recent rains. Did manage to catch a few Longear Perch and Sunfish!

Fished with the EmmRod Fly Rod the other day using the OPST Commando Head that we have on out Echo Ion 4/5 Wt Reel. Was able to cast well and catch a few fish once we made adjustments to our cast. Adjustments made were to the hand hold of the shooting head and the amount of shooting head to let out before starting the cast. Also, had to contend with line management as the mono running line tended to snag on rocks and brush at our feet.

Afterwards, decided to try using a traditional fly line - specifically, a WF 5wt. Thoughts were...
- No need to setup each cast based on a specific hand hold on the shooting head
- Less snags and tangles with the mono running line would make for more fishing and less untangling of line
- Since a Switch Cast or Roll Cast would be limited by the short length of the EmmRod Fly Rod, benefit of a shooting head was less.
- And, since the plan was to fish areas where a backcast could be used, overhead and sidecast would be used most often when fishing.

To check which line we preferred to use on the EmmRod Fly Rod, did a quick "lawn test" of both lines. End result: We intend to use the traditional 5wt WF Fly Line when fishing the EmmRod Fly Rod!
