I've thrown tons of rattle traps and sassy shad at schooling fish but never used a true top water bait so was curious what folks liked.
Let's start the weekend off right with some good ole TFF wisdom!

For sandies - Pop-R blck/chrome or small blue/chrome chug. For hybrid, pencil popper or large chug.

One Knocker Spooks and/or Badonk-A-Donks. Spit'n Image works pretty well too.

used to use Heddon Chuggers but hated all those hooks so now a jig head and sassy shad or coho.

Jig head with sassy shad.....one hook. Back in the action faster and no treble hooks.

Thanks Yall. Great info. I am going to try some of those options...and then probably go back to jig head with sassy when I get tired of dealing with treble hooks.

Been doing pretty good with a pencil popper lately, stripes and whites no hybrids here. These work for me. You could probably replace the trebles with single hooks to make them easier to unhook. Always fun when the fish hit these.

Try a baby torpedo in chrome with the hooks replaced with barbless hooks.

I usually have some type of slab on.. I will throw into school and reel back in fast enough to keep slab above water or just enough to keep it few inches below works for me.

Chrome and blue chug bugs for whites, Big Zara Spook in shad pattern, walk the dog retrieve for hybrids. Nothing like getting blasted on a topwater bait, my favorite by far.

Big plugs every time for hybrids and Stripers. Love to see them plugs get smacked around. Bigger the plugs the better. Big plugs weeds out most of the little ones. For whites clear translucent little and baby torpedoes with props.

Thanks Yall. Great info. I am going to try some of those options...and then probably go back to jig head with sassy when I get tired of dealing with treble hooks. This is why I have atleast 5 rods setup ready to go. One for topwater (badonkadonk is one of the main topwater I use.) Another rod for sassy. Another rod for slabs. Another for ratl traps and one for when they want small baits (rooster tails or tail spinners). I will always atleast have these setups on the boat. But if I have guest on the boat, I have to decide which setup don't get to go on the trip. LOL

Woodchoppers and Peacock Jumpers (built for peacock bass) are incredibly strong and very productive. They aren't cheap, though.
