I want to get the kids out fishing for some decent action, I figure sand bass is a good way to go. I remember bass fishing on Eagle and seeing the sand bass frenzy on the top, but can't remember the time of year it was... can anyone provide some good starter info for me..?

The authority on Eagle Mountain Sand Bass is Sandjohnny. He frequents this forum and is a 100% stand up guy. I would recommend contacting him and setting up a trip. He will teach you everything you need to catch sandies on EM just about year round. One trip with him and you will be good to go on your own.

To address you exact question I have not heard of much top water sand bass action on EM in the last few years. That certainly doesn't mean it does not ever happen but it is not a regular occurrence the way it is at some lakes. Right now there is so much bait that the fish don't have to school up and chase bait balls to the top...thus less top water action.

As far as kids catching sand bass. Slabbing is really easier for them than even casting into top water schooling fish.

Even if you don't book him Johnny will help you out. He also sells slabs that are very time tested and effective on EM.

Thanks you. Just looked at the site, and it seems reasonable... especially for an education. Thank you very much.

It's tough to beat right now, although it's still a little early for hot and heavy surface action. Most of our fish are coming on windblown points and humps in 10-15ft of water. I saw some light bird action as my afternoon trips came to a close last week, but not the acres of boiling fish that you're talking about.

Lane is right on. All of the fish we caught at EM yesterday were in 15' and points.

I have taken my daughters sand bass fishing with Johnny the last 4-5 years. We have caught a good number of fish each time, but more importantly he has been great with the kids. We will be back out with him next year.
