Glad the fishing is coming into season for all! I have been doing more tournament fishing this year to see how I like it. So far its been fun but I haven't had much success. Not sure why I can't seem to find the fish on tournament day. Attended a kayak bass tournament at Lake Fork yesterday and nearly skunked but did have one epic catch that was quite unexpected. I only managed one little dink bass for the tournament that came in at 11.25" But I did catch this........

And here was my little embarrassing bass I caught.... I mean come on Lake Fork really?!

Did brave the winds on Lavon today in the kayak; no keepers but did some action as well as a workout! Will post a video later.

Posted today's round on the Kayak Fishing Lake Lavon thread.

Another round in the kayak. Went with Tickey Creek to stay out of the wind. Saw lots of bank fishermen; looked like they were catching fish! Posted on the Lake Lavon thread.

This weekend was great for me. I got to do a little fishing both Saturday and Sunday. A friend of a friend suggested we try a little evening to night fishing at Lewisville Lake Barge on Saturday night. The friend in between us is a newbie and needed to break in a brand new 7' medium fast spinning rig and I have yet to get on some Texas Crappie or Sand Bass. We stayed till a little after midnight. Minnows were the bait of the night, but they did hit on a few jigs. The newbie did get to experience some pole bending, but they were under limit and got to live to fight another day. The friend in between us nabbed the biggest crappie of the night on a blue jig and I got the biggest keeper sand bass on a clear spotted jig (closest thing I had to match minnows). The barge is pretty neat. First time I have experience something like that, and I can see it as a good place to take newbies.

Sunday afternoon, I had a few hours free so I decided to head over to Oak Point Park, and get in some practice with my fly rod, since it has been a while and I have been spin fishing a lot lately. I am still a newbie when it comes to fly fishing so I will take all the practice I can get. I figure I might get lucky and nab a few bluegills as I practice. I have a popper/dropper rigged up on 6x tippet with the dropper being a size 20 Copper John and a little popper to see what I am doing. I am getting the flies out there most of the time, with almost no wind knots and the cast are pretty decent. I do get a few bluegill and even a 1/2 hand size crappie that hit the Copper John. The popper is basically an indicator for me. Next thing I know my Copper John is SMACKED by something big and it is Running! I keep the rod up and tension on the line (praying that the tippet does not snap). I play it for a bit, long enough for me to be able to fight the guy on the reel. I finally land it. It is a 2.11lb, 22" largemouth bass. My first Dallas area largemouth bass and on a fly no less. I have caught trout and bluegill on a fly, but a bass on a fly (especially such a big fish on such a tiny fly) is a completely different experience! I want more!food

Going to Oak Point gave me a place close to practice, as well as play around, and it as well as Lewisville Lake Barge look like places to take my son and newbies out for some fishing fun.

Great reports Zenmic!

Side tracked with the warmer weather and kayak fishing the local lake. Did get a quick trip in at the local pond, caught nice Shellcracker on a PMC Emerger!
Picture.

Great pics and post on the Oak Point Park. My wife and I were out with the kids there on Sunday as well. She caught a nice catfish on some stink bait while I walked around trying to fish for some bass. I always struggle there yet see so many fish jumping and flopping around.

When were you there? Being Easter Sunday there were a number of people in the park and a number of folks fishing. I was there around 5pm and walked around the first partial bend of the running path around the pond. Since I was fly fishing I wanted to make sure that I was clear of people, so I would not get in their way or accidentally hook them with the back cast. I think I was the only one out there failing around with a fly rod, everybody else seemed to be using spinning gear and it seems that a lot of folks were just baiting and waiting.

Zenmic I had my two little (7&9) kiddos with me and we were just on the west side. I think i've seen you out there before. I'm usually wearing a blue fishing shirt and so if I'm out there and i see you fly fishing i'll hit you up.
