I'm trying to plan a trip to Whitney on Saturday morning. I haven't fished there is years. Can I get some advice? Lures, where to start? Do they do anything different later in the morning than at daylight? Any info would help. Thanks

Bump. I'm planning on taking my old man out there tommorrow, but Whitney is really a new lake for me. So, I can probably tell you where not to fish and what not to throw by tomorrow night unless we get some good input here...

I know there were some good reports from last week, so you may check the threads from a week ago...

I'm also going out tomorrow. We plan to put in at McCown and head towards the dam. We'll be trying both artificials and shad. I'll post a report if my internet service allows.

I don't know if this will help but here it is. Buddy and I have fished Whitney 5 times in the past week and a half. Together last week caught about 60 stripers in 15-25 feet off the North point of the island on swimbaits. I went solo a few days later and caught 30 around Loafers same depths. He went solo in a kayak and caught 37 around Loafers also. I went solo two more times and caught them at State Park, Loafers and the island. Never had to go down lake to find fish. Look for wind blown points and areas where they can sit and wait on shad. Caught a 29 incher in a small pocket by island where wind is blowing into. We use 5-6 inch swimbaits and watch our electronics. They have been moving in pods with occasional larger schools. Have seen whites but havent fished em much. Fish seem to want the bait moving. Havent used live shad just swimbaits. Seem to be alot of fish in the 21-22 inch class with a big one thrown in every now and then. We throw all the 18-21 inch fish back and dont have any trouble getting a good bag of larger fish. Good luck with the kids fishing.

Went yesterday with Rob and we had a hard day. Sandies seem to only be at the mouth of creeks, didn't find any midlake. Found some birds working early morning in 12 fow bank North of Towash. Found some nice sandbass here using small minnow shaped slabs.

Found a big school of Stripers by the bluffs but they didn't want a slab only got one.
The best place we found for sandbass was at the mouth of creeks in Cedron suspended at 20 ft in 26fow. Tried slabbin the bottom but they wouldn't bite had to be suspended at around 20.

Are the fish just biting early or throughout the day? Thinking about hiring the water after a turkey hunt.

Reports were good.

3/31 got to lake with my dad around 3pm. Launched at McCowns. Headed South, got to first wind blown point/ledge and birds were working it. Caught roughly 15 between us, all on slabs, 5-15 fow. Birds moved in and out a lot, but never seemed to venture too far from this point. We left around 5, headed farther south circled around an island, didn't find much of interest, checked a few other places and nada. Back to the spot we started at probably around 6:30 and it was on. Mostly small striper, nothing more than 20" all day. But we wore them out, caught a few bonus largemouth. Fishing got to where it was a fish per cast right before dark with fish surfacing. Thanks to those who posted some help.

April 1. Launched out of McCown around 7 am and headed for the dam. Before we got very far, we noticed birds working a flat area with lots of brush sticking out right past the swimmming area. As we got closer, noticed water was boiling everywhere. Set trolling motor down and chased boils for a good forty mintues. Caught a whole of striper around 18-22 inches and some sand bass. After that we headed towards the dam, but it was too windy, so we came back and fished around the bridge. Nada. It was a fun beginning though.
