I live and fish on the Chesapeake Bay and really love casting soft plastics here for trout, reds, striped bass, etc. I use allot of bass assassins, old stocks of Mr Wiffles, etc. and was curious as to what my Gulf Coast brethren use? My favorites include; 1. bass assassins 4 inch sea shads 2. Gulp green or white swiming minnows (I use these for flounder and small stripers). 3. Mr Wiffles 4. 5 inch Kalin Lunker grubs. Blue pearl salt & pepper is great for stripers. 5. Zman swimerz 4 inch.

Norton sand eel in clearer water Hogie super minnow when it's stained or murky. That pretty well covers my bases.

Down South Lures for Trout and Reds Chickenboy for Flounder I like the Sea Shad paddle tails but they tear up too easy. I've been using Slayer Inc's version and they work great!

The lure preferences are dictated by which bay you're fishing in, as are colors.
The further south you go, the shallower and for the most part clearer the bays get.
Sand eel colors we use are the tequila and baffin magic. Which is pumpkin/gold flake and bright pink. Hogie colors are pumpkin/Chartreuse Red/white White/chartreuse
Now my neighbor in Seadrift catches a ton of trout and uses one bait, Norton bull minnow in plum/chart. So, it's more the who and where than the what.

Your 4 inch Bass Assassins are a favorite but not very durable. Sort of an in between action. The Down South line up is very good. I felt like I caught more flounder with those than any other soft plastic. Tails on the DSL line are small paddle tails with a seemingly faster more subtle vibration than many of the others. H&H Cocahoe Minnows, the smaller ones. These paddle tails have a big action. Norton Bull Minnows. My buddy uses these and on some days, these are the only ones that work. I might even beg some off of him if I'm not doing well and they will rescue me.

Love hearing what you guys are using. This is great info. I have recently ordered some of the Down South soft plastics but have not had the chance to use them yet. I do use some of the small H&H Cocahoe Minnows at times as well. They work well when tied in a tandem rig here for striped bass. I like a lure that has allot of inherent action so I rarely use twitch baits of any kind. I do not however like the Storm lure type lures that have the weight built into them. They are fine for a simple cast and retrieve but if I am casting and bouncing one of these Storm lure type lures on the bottom I cant feel what its doing like I can with a lead jig head and soft plastic. I think the Storm lures are good for people who are not very good at fishing because they have a good swimming action and appearance though. For the absolute best swimming action though nothing compares to the Mr Wiffle tails in my opinion.

I typically fish for trout under lights at night when I fish saltwater. I like the Gulp shrimp and mud minnows in the crazy Nuclear Chicken color. Lately I have started using the Keitech fat swing minnows: http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/keitech-...ldCatid=1227366Pair them with the weighted or unweighted twistlock Owner hooks and its a great combo. http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/owner-twistlock8482%3B-3x-weighted-single-hooks-3-pack#repChildCatid=18713 Action on the Keitech is super but tails get beat up after 3-4 trout get their jaws on them. But worth the money to me though.
Live each day like it's your last because one day you'll be right!

I just got some of the Egret mullet paddle tails. Wow they have a real strong swimming action. I have never seen these before so this was a cool deal for me so far.
