I have a 08 250 pro xs on a 08 Couger Basscat, boat has been running great for the last few weeks. This weekend my hole shot became horrible and my top end speed fell by 20 mph. The boat will not plane out until 3800 rpm and at top end I'm only getting 5100 rpm ,the week before I was running around 6200 rpms. At 1500 rpm the motor will start vibrating but will stop at higher rpm. While idling through a stump field, I hit a stump that killed the motor. There is no visible damage to the prop and the prop does not wobble when I spin it.What could be causing these issues?

Sounds like a coil issue. I have an 07 250 xs and I recently had 2 coils go out about 2 months apart. The first coil caused the same exact symptoms, loss of top end and slow hole shot. The second coil went out with a bang the morning of champs Falcon while we were waiting to blast off. This one shorted and blew a fuse and put us dead in the water. That coil actually cracked open and oozed some tar looking stuff. Do a good visual inspection of each coil and wires, look for cracked or unusual looking stuff leaking out of coil. Easy to diagnose. I fixed both coils my self, with a spark tester you can locate the dead one pretty easy. Ordered coil on line at 145 bucks each. The 07-09 250 xs had issues with coils and should have been replaced back when they were in warranty. Good luck !!!

More than likely a coil. Your motor falls under a service bulletin regarding bad coils. If you have a bad coil the service bulletin says you must replace all 6 coils or could risk damage to the pcm.

Thank you for your replies . I tested the coils and found that #5 coil did not have a spark . I am in the process of ordering a coil. Thanks again!!
