I am thinking of purchasing a 2016 f-150 4x4 with the 5.0 motor and I have a 20 foot champion I tow which weighs around 6 thousand, does any one have any experience with towing your rig with this model truck , I am a little concerned about how it will tow , thanks for any advice

I have a 2015 fx4 5.0 and pull a 21' legend - no complaints - I always tow it in the "tow" mode - the engine brake feature has saved me several times. Getting about 13 - 14 mpg towing.

It will tow it fine.

6,000 lbs is what most bumper pull travel trailers weigh. I would urge you to take your boat to a scale and weigh it. Wouldn't surprise me if your 2000 lbs heavy on your guestimate.

Mine is a '16 5.0 4x4 and I tow a 21' cc that weighs 4160 empty with trailer per the scale at Loves. I came out of a 5.9 Cummins so I had to relearn towing with a smaller motor. But it does fine and I just drive a little slower. Definitely a smoother ride. Get the 3.55 rear end. Mine is the 3.31 or some such. I've got plenty of braking capacity and sometimes turn off tow mode as abrupt braking causes it to downshift more than I care for. I usually lock out 6th unless I'm on a long downhill grade. I also get 13-14 towing 65-70 mph, 17+ empty, hand calculated. Hope this helps.

You'll be just fine. I don't think there's been a half ton made in the last 20 years that couldn't tow a 20' champion bass boat. The F-150 with a 5.0 will handle it with zero issues.

I'd bet your boat is closer to the 4,500-5,000 lb range anyway, but you could tow it easily even if it was 6k lbs.

doubt it is even 4500. What is the GVWR on the trailer tag?

I seriously thought about the ecoboost when I got my 2015 but decided to stay with tried and true - go see Steve Smith at 5 star ford there in NRH he knows his trucks - bought probably 8 cars and trucks from him in last 5 years for myself and family always felt like he gave me a fair deal.

The ecoboost has been out for 6 years now? I'd consider it pretty tried and true.

I have a 2013 F-150 Lariat, and it pulls a Skeeter ZX250 just fine. Obviously the gas mileage will vary with truck and boat combo, but it is plenty of truck to pull a good sized rig.

I have a 2014 Ecoboost and it pulls my 21 ft center console just fine. I also use tow haul mode, put it on cruse control at 65, turn on the a.c and it doesn't have any issues.

I hav a 2015 with the 5.0 and tow package. The first major towing trip we took in it was hauling my Triton TR-186 to Grand Lake and back to Garland and used tow/haul mode and set the cruse control at the posted speed limit, Total trip averaged 17mpg hand calculated. I have an Undercover top on the bed and with the wife and my 35 yo daughter loaded down with the load women folk tote around loaded in the back we road comfortably. You'll be fine and should perform well.

Go to U-Haul and rent one for a day and see for yourself.
