Hey guys.... help me with some advise. Which do you prefer? Texas rig or shaky head. When, where, and why?

I like shakey head around rocks and clean bottoms and texas rig around heavy brush.

But i dont catch much fish, so interested to see what others say.

Have no preference over the other. Use both in same applications. Basically they are the same bait, weight at the bottom of a bait which floats upward. Sometimes fish just prefer the slight appearance over the other. I have noticed that some people will use a different style of bait on a shakey head than they would use on a TX rig when in all probability one could probably it wouldn't matter which rig you use. I swing like this, if I think one is working better I use it.

In general; I think of shaky head (rounder head design) more of a slow moving search technique (slowly dragging it with pauses) and a trig (bullet weight) more of a target specific reaction bite (pitching it to a small window and maybe hopping it a few times or soaking it/retrieve/repeat). Of course, you can catch fish slowly dragging a trig, but other techniques are more efficient (the bullet weight tends to dig whether it's pegged or not)

I fish both, Shakeyhead more often in open water (points, docks, etc.) and on lighter line, fish Trig on heavier line around brush and timber.

A shaky head is great for clear water, rocky areas, and high pressured situations. It's a finesse style presentation. A Tx-rig is good for thick cover, grass, dirty or clear water, and for when you need a big bite. I find myself throwing a shaky head a lot more than a Tx-rig.

The fish will tell you which is better that day IMO.

This. I often fish where there is a lot of heavy vegetation, so I always have a t-rig tied on with a pegged weight.

Pick an area and try both. Last weekend I had a trick worm on a shakey head and the wife had the same worm rigged texas style. She put a few in the boat and I didn't get a bite. I changed to Texas rig and started catching.

If you are fishing in weeds or grass, I would go with the Trig. The shakey head catches on too much grass for my taste fishing it in weeds. Open water, however, let the fish tell you what they want and fish it. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.
