If I want to sit in the comfort of my own home and enter gps coordinates and names into my fishfinder can I do this by simply buying another power cable and a 12v battery such as a game camera battery or something of the like? And if there is another cheaper or better way to do this I'm open to all suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Before you do anything, make sure you have backed up all your waypoints/trails/etc you want to keep on an SD card (speaking from experience)
The way you mentioned is the easiest way to do it.
The other way would be to do everything on your home computer, download it to an sd card, then upload to the Lowrance.
