I can second the Cafe in Graford. Very reliable...We hunt out there and hang out at PK. Good for the middle of nowhere.

I've been three times, first time was great, second time was average and today's was easily the best chicken Fried steak I've ever had. Consistency seems to be their biggest problem.

It is worth the stop especially if you want some home country cooking next time your through there, you will enjoy country boy food I may be passing through there this Saturday after a duck hunt up around PK this Saturday if wife is with me, we will stop for sure and she will most likely request a full order again scared peep

Riata (sp) in Alpine was the best CFS I've ever had. Even bought their cookbook and now do them myself at home in a big cast iron skillet with their cream gravy. GREAT
Mary's is known for their CFS but I too have been disappointed the last few times I've been there. The service help is terrible. It's probably difficult even getting folks to work out there.
My family is all from Strawn area so we know it well.

I love Mary's but I have to say the last time we went for my parent's anniversary the service was HORRIBLE. 1 hour to get a table and then over an hour to get our food and then it came at different times. I had my food for 20 min before my kids got theres. Dad got his hamburger steak but didn't get his fries till 20 minutes later. Took forever to check out too. They knocked off $20 off our bill when we complained but still didn't excuse the service.
Overall we were there nearly 3 hours. Not a good anniversary to say the least for my parents.

I've eaten there every opening day of Dove season for years and years. It's a tradition. I know Mary and have sold her steaks for her chicken fry in the past.
I still love it and will continue to eat there.

But in my opinion, Babe's is better. Much better.
