SD map card and 2 units linked....question #12040986 01/15/17 08:34 PM

I have two HDS gen2 touch screens, one on the console and the other at the bow of the boat. The two units are the same size and are linked together via Ethernet cable. I have this SD map card in the rear unit. http://www.legendcartography.com/store/p19/Texas_-_Unleashed.html
(Lake Fork map)

For about 10 months the map data on the rear unit transferred to the front just fine. Then one day I lost all depth contours on the front unit. It will still show the outline of the lake, my current trail and all existing way points but no depth or contour or any other detail data. Anyone have any idea what is going on here? The two units are linked via Ethernet cable but I do not have the two "networked" together.

Both units also are running the latest 6.0 update from Lowrance.

That is what I think. That cable has several pins and maybe some of them are not making contact maybe a broken wire within the cable. Some information is still being transferred from one unit to the other but not all of it.

I am going to link the two together with a different Ethernet cable and see if that works. What a pain, taking the broken one out and having to install another one.

Sometimes if you unplug it from the back of a unit and plug it back in it will start working, just try one unit at a time.

I think it will only share the NAVIONICS cards.... If I remember, it was part of the 2.0 or 2.1 software release.

I did that. I also put the SD card in the front unit and the map would not come up on the rear unit although it worked perfectly in the front unit.

It does say 3rd party cards, but my guess is the "legend Cartography" cards are a bit Home grown mapping with instructions that use the LOWRANCE Map and then change the sub settings ...My guess is the mapping format that's on the Legend card is not in the same type of format as the Lowrance Insight or Navionics. I would suggest calling the Legend Support and asking them if this is possible:

http://www.legendcartography.com/contacttech-support.html

I can't do it on my networked HDS gen2 9/12 either. I have BOTH Navionics Premium and Legend ( LAKE FORK ) cards.

Display Lake Fork on Map Screen, then:
Menu->Chart Options and set "Chart Source" to LOWRANCE
Menu->Chart Options->View->Categories
Make sure the last option "WATER" is checked...
=======================================================================================
Menu->Chart Options->View and set "Photo Overlay" to OFF to see CONTOURS ONLY
or
Menu->Chart Options->View and set "Photo Overlay" to FULL to see PHOTO OVERLAY ONLY
=======================================================================================
Menu->Chart Options->View and set "Photo Overlay" to FULL AND
Menu->Chart Options->Presentation and set "Shaded Relief" ON to see both PHOTO OVERLAY and CONTOURS
Here you can also control contours with:
Menu->Chart Options->Presentation and set "No Contour" on or off.

Let me know if you have questions or call Trapper at Legends Cartography.
Tell him it's nice & warm down here in Texas. . .

Thanks to all that responded for your help. I called Trapper and talked to him. Super nice person.
I will see if I can get it working again this weekend. Thanks again.

WOW it appears you know how to navigate the Lowrance units very well.

Yes, Trapper is +1 good guy.

Power up all boat's HDS units.

Check Ethernet connectivity:
Settings->Network->Diagnostics->UDB and you should see each unit's IP address displayed.
This will indicate Ethernet connectivity if remote units have IP address assigned.

And you can get an idea that Ethernet is functioning if you are viewing the consoles's sonar or LSS from the bow unit.
Also if you are successfully sharing waypoints between bow & console.

Legends Unleashed(Lake Fork) is a standard Navico AT5 map. As such it will share over Ethernet networked units.
I just check again on my boat. . .

I'm believing that:
The pre-impoundment photos are built as Satellite Imagery mapping. So Chart Options->View->Photo Overlay controls this.
The contours are built as Shaded Relief mapping. So Chart Options->Presentation->Shaded Relief controls this.
As such you can control displaying the contours and if you overlay the contours with photos.

Hope this helps more on the Ethernet testing and map settings.
Your problem is somewhere. smile

FYI:
Do not pull a AT5 map card from the unit while it is being displayed. I've had response or unit hang issues sometimes.

I'll switch to Navionics, then remove AT5 SD-card.

I always turn the unit off before taking the SD card out.

Thanks again for the help.
