a couple of days after Christmas i took my boat out for a spin, as it has been a busy year and it hadn't run since last july. the motor is a 94 mercury 150 black max and it has been a great motor. after a little convincing, it started up and idled well. after backing it off the trailer i idled out for about 10 minutes to let the motor warm up and then went to plane. it shot right out of the hole and ran like a top. i took it out to the main lake and then turned around and came back but my son wanted to go for another "lap". i obliged and once i hit the main lake the second time i started to feel a little loss of power and then i heard a little knocking sound. i throttled down and then it died as i got to neutral. when i turned the key it just clicked. long tm trip back....

for those wondering, i had the oil disengaged years ago and i mix my gas and oil at fill up. i also use an ethanol treatment along with stabilizer at every fill up with occasional sea foam treatments.

my fear is the worst, but without taking it in to a mechanic yet does anybody have any suggestions? thanks in advance.

sounds like the engine is locked up may want to try to see if you can turn the crankshaft and flywheel by hand

Sounds like it seized up which you probably already feared. Have you tried to crank it over since that day?.You never got a warning horn I assume, is the warning functional?. Could of overheated or detonated a piston.Pull the plugs out and look at each one and by looking at the plugs more times than not you can tell which hole is bad. They should look a lite brown in color if you find one that is washed clean or has aluminum flakes on it that is the one....OPTI

Not good, condolences.

Best possible scenario: carb sucked up bad gas. Not too likely, but...( as previously mentioned, see if it turns over.

Report back....but...it may be like toast....( once it is, you can't make it bread anymore.)

I am fully expecting the worst but wanted to pick brains before I took it anywhere.

Timing on these things is never good, but the good news is that the same God that provided me the means to have her will provide the means to fix her!!!!

Been there done that---start by pulling the plugs and check for damage. More than likely you will find damage on one, if not pull the heads and inspect for burned piston and lean condition (the lean cylinder will have a lighter color on the head due to higher temp).

Seems like the guys above might have it locked in Top Waters, but hoping for the best for you. Haven't seen another guy on here from Melissa besides you, good to see someone else! Good luck with that motor!!!
