Got an invite to fish with the Boyer boys on the CaptN Rockwall Roy vessel Monday from 930 to 130. Monday marks the 1 year anniversary of the tornado. It felt warm but there were pockets of colder airs which made the boat ride to the deep 40ft memorable. The fog made visibility of 15 yards as we left the marina slow and cautiously.

The morning had south wind which made our first drift an instant good deadstick catching with good sandies and yours truly landed a good hubbard hibbie in the first 30 minutes! Caught it on a stinger hook that was shared by Mike Oser recently on TFF.

Then the wind changed to west, then north within an hour that made our drift funky and the bites slowed way down. Then fortunately buddies Mark and Frank were out and they found some while spotlock in 40ft and we came over and caught some good winter sandies to finish the day.

Water temp was 54f at the marina, and 50f in 40ft. Most were caught on smaller flukes and a few on the skinny profile slab. Deadstick is on now. Go catch em guys! Good luck!

Here is a closer look at the stinger hook (small size 1/0 i think) that caught the hibbie that Mike Oser posted on another thread. I held the fish still hooked to take a photo to share and the fish shook off my thumb and the hook sliced my pinky pretty good. So be extremely care with stingers. Hope that helps a few. And thanks for sharing, Mike!

I bet you do! Glad you made it through that. Didn't you get a new boat out of that deal?

They repaired mine to the tune of $24000. Got a new ipilot, Helix 9, new live well, new carpet, new passenger consol, new cowling, new prop, along with new paint and gel coat on about half the boat. Vics marine and Rockwall marine did all the work and did a great job matching the color....I've had her out 5 time since getting her back in August.

Great stuff Todd Roy and Boyer clan. Love seeing the pics you always post Todd! rockon
I went out today and got some good action as well. I stay d a bit more north in 27 to 28 fow and found some whites and small hybrids as well. Little fluke was the ticket just above the slab for me.

Good to know they are at shallower too, Z. Thanks. I guess the water temp warmed up a bit the past few days that helps. I think mark and Frank found some in 27 fow too in the redbarn cove. But they were scattered and stopped biting when we got there lol. Also I tied a white grub above Terry's fluke and he caught some good sandies on the white grub too.
